New article from Lena Reider on positive risk taking

Congratulations to Lena Reider for the publication of her article “Challenge Appraisals as Key Predictors of Immediate and Long-Term Behavior Change: Evidence from Real-Life Group Contexts,” published in the Journal of Applied Social Psychology

Written with SCOOP colleagues Madelijn Strick, Vincent Buskens, and Naomi Ellemers, the article investigates how people can be encouraged to engage in positive risk-taking behaviours – challenging the status quo – despite the potential discomfort that comes with openly signaling one's values and beliefs.

The authors found that individuals who saw engaging in positive risk-taking behaviours as personal growth were more likely to take positive risks three weeks later. So, feeling uncomfortable when we’re saying what we think may not be so bad after all – as long as we see it as a positive challenge.
