SCOOP PhD researcher Silke Baas takes part in Klokhuis Vragendag at NEMO Science Museum
SCOOP PhD researcher Silke Baas has recently taken part in Vragendag (Question Day) organised by children’s TV programmer Het Klokhuis. The event took place at the NEMO Science Museum in Amsterdam. As part of the day, curious children aged six to twelve are given an “Appointment with a scientist” to ask their questions about science and research. According to Silke, the children asked such sociological questions as “Why do girls often like different colours than boys?”; “Why do painters only become famous after they die?”; and “What is love, and how can you tell if you’re in love?”. Well done to Silke for taking part in such a delightful event!
Silke’s research project aims to determine the origins of occupational stereotypes, how and why they change over time, how they affect the majority gender share of occupations, and how these stereotypes affect the relative remuneration of men and women. You can find out more about her research here.
