Artist Maartje de Goede visits RUG for SCOOP Art co-creation session

In June, the Department of Sociology at the University of Groningen was excited to host artist Maartje de Goede for a co-creation session as part of the SCOOP Art project.

Maartje has been travelling the Netherlands speaking to citizen initiatives as she makes her artwork De Noodzaak (the necessity): a prep store filled with imaginary objects that help society prepare for a crisis by becoming more socially resilient. Each initiative contributes an object to the Noodzaak.

Maartje brought objects from thenoodpakket (emergency kit) that the Dutch government recommends every household keep in case of crisis. With her help, thinking creatively, we came up with our contribution to the Noodzaak: a shining zeppelin made out of a silver emergency blanket. It represents SCOOP’s hope to shine light on new knowledge.

We look forward to seeing the Noodzaak when the artwork begins touring the Netherlands this summer, along with Quita Felix’s interactive artwork, Spillover.

More details to follow soon.
