New article from Julia Houben on how to increase social safety for PhD students
Congratulations to Julia Houben for the publication of her article “Social Safety of PhD Candidates: Risk Factors and Strategies” in the International Journal of Doctoral Studies.
Written alongside SCOOP colleagues Reine van der Wal and Naomi Ellemers, the paper demonstrates how the social safety risks PhD candidates face – such as the heightened vulnerability that comes with dependent working relationships, temporary contracts, and the hierarchical and competitive nature of universities – should not be treated as isolated issues but ones that requires a systemic and comprehensive solution.
