SCOOP is delighted to announce that PhD researcher Michael Eigner will be defending his dissertation, "The Moral Demands of Sustainable Value Creation" on November 9th, 2026.
Michael’s dissertation argues that organizations need to take moral considerations seriously if they want to remain sustainable in the long term. Economic success alone is not enough, because the way organizations treat people, make decisions, and exercise responsibility also affect their ability to function well over time. The research looks at how moral concerns arise in everyday organizational life and how they can influence employees, organizational structures, and the broader environment they’re situated in. It also considers how organizations can create structures that allow these concerns to be heard and addressed. Overall, the thesis shows that moral and economic sustainability are closely connected rather than separate goals.
